Inspired Fair Isle Knits (published in 2007) reimagines traditional techniques in a distinctive collection of beautiful, wearable garments. Using the core Fair Isle method—small geometric motifs worked in two colors per row—the author presents earthy, modern, and timeless designs organized into four themes: Water, Air, Fire, and Earth.

Ellis creates varied moods, movement, and graphic impact through unexpected pattern placement at cuffs and shoulders, along with asymmetrical and striped color arrangements. She also combines Fair Isle with cables, lace, felting, and even pleats.

The finished pieces look intricate but require only intermediate skills. Experienced knitters will also find fresh interpretations of the Fair Isle sweater, including a halter top, tank, and wrap.

Preowned, hartcover with dust jacket, 144 pages, 8 3/4” x 11”
